Final trading accelerates after Friday’s snapshot
The Spain–Argentina World Cup final generated approximately $1.977 billion in trading volume across Kalshi and Polymarket, according to the platforms’ settled event pages. Spain defeated Argentina 1-0 after extra time Sunday, with Ferran Torres scoring the winning goal in the 106th minute to secure the country’s second World Cup title.
Kalshi’s Spain–Argentina event displayed $1,893,220,660 in volume after the final, while Polymarket’s corresponding match page reported $83.75 million. The latter’s total covered a collection of final-specific markets rather than a single winner contract. Its event page showed $43.4 million for the match winner, $47.1 million for the regulation-time moneyline, $18.4 million for totals and $8.5 million for spreads, alongside markets involving goals, corners, assists and other match outcomes. The platform’s displayed $83.75 million event total should be used instead of adding the individual categories, which may include overlapping market groupings.
Kalshi had reported more than $1.27 billion in Spain–Argentina volume by midday Friday, when Spain was priced with approximately a 61% chance of winning. The settled total means activity increased by more than $623 million, or roughly 49%, between that snapshot and the end of trading.
Polymarket’s growth was even more concentrated around the match. The platform told Fortune that its Spain–Argentina page had recorded nearly $3 million by Friday, compared with $83.75 million after settlement. That suggests more than $80 million in additional activity arrived during the final two days and live match window.
The final-specific total is separate from the larger, tournament-long markets used in the earlier $5.5 billion comparison. That figure combined Kalshi’s pre-final Spain–Argentina activity with Polymarket’s World Cup winner market, which had been trading since July 2025 and ultimately closed with $4.328 billion in cumulative volume.
Trading volume is not equivalent to unique money wagered or traditional sportsbook handle. Prediction contracts can be bought and resold before settlement, meaning the same capital may contribute to volume repeatedly as traders enter, exit or reverse positions. Both Kalshi and Polymarket allow users to sell contracts before an event resolves.
The final capped a tournament that had already produced unusually large event-level markets. Mexico and England generated nearly $460 million during their knockout match, while combined monthly activity across Kalshi, Polymarket and Polymarket US rose 75% to $44.8 billion in June.
Spain’s extra-time victory settled billions of dollars in tournament and match-specific contracts, but the clearest final-only measure is the nearly $2 billion recorded on the two platforms’ Spain–Argentina event pages. The result also demonstrated how quickly prediction-market liquidity can concentrate around one global sporting event, with hundreds of millions of dollars in additional trading arriving during the final weekend.
