55.84 Billion XRP Appears Across the Top 40 Wallets, but Escrow Changes the Picture

The Rich List Is Bigger Than It Looks

The coin’s distribution panel lists a maximum supply of 100 billion $XRP, 67.526 billion in circulation, 32.445 billion in escrow, and 14.364 million permanently destroyed through transaction fees, according to stats logged by xrpscan.com’s Rich List page. The rich-list images rank accounts by combining direct balances with $XRP displayed in the “In Escrow” column, pushing several Ripple-linked addresses above wallets holding much larger immediately available balances.

Adding every balance and escrow allocation shown across the 40 wallet entries Bitcoin.com News researched, produces 55.839 billion $XRP, equal to about 55.85% of the listed fully diluted supply. Removing the escrow column leaves 20.839 billion $XRP in direct account balances, or roughly 30.9% of the reported circulating supply. That distinction matters because escrowed $XRP cannot be treated as liquid inventory ready to enter exchanges or markets.

Ranks 1-10: Ripple Escrow Takes the Top Six Spots

The first six positions belong to Ripple-labeled accounts carrying only 197 to 235 $XRP in direct balances but 5 billion $XRP apiece in escrow. Together, those six entries account for 30 billion $XRP in displayed escrow allocations via xrpscan.com. Their placement at the top, therefore, reflects locked contractual holdings rather than six highly liquid wallets capable of immediately moving 5 billion $XRP each.

The South Korean crypto exchange Bithumb ranks seventh with a direct balance of 1.841 billion $XRP, making it the largest non-escrow balance shown in the top 40. An unlabeled address follows with 1.801 billion $XRP, while Binance ranks ninth with 1.669 billion. The account in tenth place is labeled as Ripple-controlled and combines a balance slightly above 500 million $XRP with another 1 billion assigned to escrow.

Those three large non-escrow accounts deserve different interpretations. Bithumb and Binance are exchange wallets that may aggregate assets belonging to many customers, while the unidentified address has no public entity label. A large exchange balance can reflect custody, market-making reserves, or customer deposits rather than a directional bet by one owner.

Ranks 11-20: Exchanges and Ripple Split the Field

Another Ripple-controlled account occupies 11th place with just over 500 million $XRP in its direct balance and 1 billion in escrow. The multi-asset digital asset exchange Uphold follows with 1.485 billion $XRP, while the South Korean trading platform Upbit holds 1.424 billion in the first of many appearances. Another set of Ripple-managed accounts carrying 1.330 billion and 816.421 million $XRP take the next two positions.

Japanese cryptocurrency exchanges Bitbank ranks 16th with 577.779 million $XRP and a separate 500 $XRP escrow entry, followed by Coincheck with 555.541 million. Positions 18 through 20 return to Ripple once again, with each address holding only a few hundred $XRP directly alongside an assigned 500 million $XRP in escrow. Three more accounts following them use the same structure.

The exchange and platform addresses in this range reinforce a central limitation of rich lists. Wallet rankings identify where coins sit onchain, but they do not necessarily identify their beneficial owners. One exchange address can represent thousands or millions of customers whose individual positions, cost bases and intentions remain invisible.

Ranks 21-30: Half-Billion-$XRP Accounts Stack Up

Ripple occupies positions 21 through 23 with three additional 500 million $XRP escrow allocations. Upbit then controls every top wallet position from 24 through 30, with seven addresses holding between 500,000,022 and 500,000,112 $XRP each. That seven-wallet block alone represents slightly more than 3.5 billion coins. $XRP enjoys broad popularity in South Korea, as reflected in the sizable reserves held by Upbit and Bithumb.

Across the entire top 40 rich list, Upbit appears 11 times and holds a combined 6.424 billion $XRP. When Bithumb, Binance, Uphold, bitbank, Coincheck, and Etoro are added, exchange and trading platform labels account for approximately 13.033 billion $XRP in direct balances, equal to about 19.3% of the circulating 67,526,283,516 $XRP supply.

That concentration gives traders a practical monitoring target, but not an automatic negative signal. Material transfers out of cold-storage addresses, sustained deposits into operational wallets, or large movements between exchanges would provide more useful information than the static balances alone. Without movement, the addresses primarily document custody concentration.

Ranks 31-40: Larsen and Unlabeled Whales Enter

Upbit also holds positions 31 through 33, with each address containing 500,000,022 $XRP. The next three addresses are labeled to Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen, including two holding 500,000,001 $XRP and another holding exactly 500 million. A fourth Larsen-labeled address ranks 39th with 450 million $XRP.

The four Larsen entries contain a combined 1.950 billion $XRP. EToro ranks 37th with 479.949 million, while two additional unlabeled wallets hold 470.179 million and 438.374 million $XRP to round out the top 40 list. Combined with the unidentified account ranked eighth, the three unlabeled addresses represent approximately 2.710 billion $XRP.

Unlabeled does not necessarily mean that a wallet belongs to one secretive billionaire. The accounts could be associated with unknown custodians, institutional services, companies or entities that have not been publicly tagged. For onchain onlookers, their future movements warrant attention, but ownership should not be assigned without stronger onchain clustering or verifiable off-chain evidence.

What the Top 40 Means for $XRP Holders

Of the 40 entries, 37 carry labels linking them to Ripple, Chris Larsen, Upbit or another exchange and financial platform. Ripple appears on a total of 16 accounts, Upbit on 11, and Larsen on four. Only three addresses lack a displayed identity. The data, therefore, portrays a supply concentrated among corporate treasury structures, escrow contracts, and pooled custodial wallets rather than 40 independent retail whales.

Ripple’s escrow schedule remains the more important supply variable. Essentially, Ripple originally placed 55 billion $XRP into time-based contracts, with scheduled monthly releases and unused portions commonly returned to new escrows. The distribution panel shows 32.445 billion $XRP still locked, while the rich list shows how those allocations are associated with individual Ripple-labeled accounts.

For traders, the top 40 should be treated as a map of custody and supply structure, not a prediction of imminent selling. Lower-tier holders will likely offer a clearer perspective. Exchange wallets pool customer assets, escrowed coins remain restricted, and static founder balances reveal little about near-term intent. The more consequential signal will be what changes next: large outflows, fresh exchange deposits, altered escrow allocations or previously dormant, unlabeled accounts beginning to move.
