Elon Musk’s SpaceX has just moved Bitcoin for the first time in six months, but the extremely small volume of the transfer has stirred curiosity across the crypto community.
Following recent data shared by the Arkham Intelligence platform, a crypto wallet associated with SpaceX has moved about $88 worth of Bitcoin to another wallet that it also controls.
Is SpaceX running a test?
With the transfer coming after about six months of silence, and the company only moving $88 worth of Bitcoin out of its massive $1.16 billion Bitcoin holdings, questions are rising about the motive behind such an unusual move.
Although there is no clarification on the move from SpaceX itself, the Arkham team noted that they have conducted more research and provided further insights on the minimal Bitcoin transfer from such a large holder.
They further confirmed that the small Bitcoin transaction itself does not offer any clear indication that SpaceX is preparing to sell its Bitcoin, making it look more like a test transaction.
While similar moves have been commonly noticed among companies and institutional investors who want to verify that wallet addresses and custody systems are working properly, speculation is leaning toward the idea that SpaceX might be testing for a potential Bitcoin treasury operation.
SpaceX as one of Bitcoin’s largest corporate holders
The data further showed that SpaceX currently holds more than 18,700 BTC, which is worth about $1.16 billion at Bitcoin’s current market price.
As such, SpaceX’s large Bitcoin position makes it one of the largest known corporate Bitcoin holders, making its latest $88 Bitcoin move all the more intriguing.
