Coinbase has introduced three products designed to support payments, trading and development across the emerging AI agent economy.
The company said agent traffic exceeded human traffic on Base documentation pages for the first time last month, reflecting growing use of AI systems to access services and operate online.
The new releases include support for agent payments through Coinbase Business, expanded trading capabilities within Coinbase for Agents and a new x402 software development kit from Coinbase Developer Platform.
Coinbase Business users will be able to accept $USDC payments directly from AI agents beginning this week. The feature is powered by Coinbase Payments and uses x402, an open payment standard created for automated payments across websites and online services.
Businesses will not need to complete additional setup to accept agent payments. Coinbase said $USDC transactions settle instantly and do not carry chargeback risk.
The service also supports reusable payment links and automated buyer data collection for reconciliation and analytics.
Coinbase also expanded Coinbase for Agents, its Model Context Protocol product launched last month, with new commands that allow AI agents to access live market data and execute trades based on predefined rules.
The tools include live monitoring of open orders, access to order books and real time price and volume data. Users can also create conditional instructions that trigger purchases when a selected price or market condition is reached.
For example, a user could instruct an agent to purchase Ethereum after a 5% decline or sell an asset once another order has been completed.
Coinbase said the system uses the same WebSocket market data infrastructure available to institutional trading desks while allowing users to manage instructions through natural language.
The company also launched the CDP x402 SDK, which allows developers to add agent payment acceptance to an API, MCP server or web service with three lines of code.
The SDK is Coinbase’s configured version of the open source x402 standard. It includes payment infrastructure and recommended extensions that developers would otherwise need to configure separately.
Coinbase said the product is intended to help developers make applications and services payable by AI agents without requiring extensive knowledge of the x402 standard.
The releases form part of Coinbase’s broader effort to provide financial infrastructure for AI agents that can trade, make payments and operate online on behalf of users.
