The four-week return also masks sharp reversals within the period. CoinGecko recorded $AVAX at $11.60 on Oct. 6 and $10.08 on Oct. 8. Its subsequent recovery left it below the earlier level, even as it maintained a substantial lead over bitcoin and ether across the full four weeks.
Shorter Commitments for Validators
During the price-measurement window, Avalanche changed the terms for committing $AVAX to help secure its network. The Helicon upgrade activated on Sept. 22, according to Avalanche’s account, with the activation date also specified in the AvalancheGo release.
Helicon cut the minimum staking period for Primary Network validators from two weeks to 48 hours, while leaving the minimum stake at 2,000 $AVAX. That gives node operators a shorter capital commitment without reducing the amount of $AVAX needed to participate. It also introduced automatic renewal for validator stakes.
Institutional lending was another development during the period. Aave Labs’ plan for a dedicated tokenized-asset credit market on Avalanche, reported by The Defiant on Sept. 16, would let institutions borrow USA₮ against tokenized collateral. At announcement, the hub and stablecoin listing were subject to Aave DAO approval.
Those developments provide network context, not an established explanation for the price move. For $AVAX stakers, Helicon’s changes also involve a trade-off: rewards for shorter commitments are being reduced over a 90-day phase-in, while the reward for a full-year commitment is unchanged, according to Avalanche.
