It works on both iOS and Android. So the integration covers both sides of the mobile divide.
The more interesting part is how those assets are secured. Zengo relies on patent-protected multi-party computation, or MPC, rather than the traditional seed phrase model.
MPC splits the job of signing a transaction across multiple parties. No single piece holds full control, so there is no single key to steal or misplace.
Zengo layers biometric authentication on top of this setup. Its recovery options are also built to avoid creating single points of failure, which is the weak spot in many conventional wallet designs.
The company points to a zero-hack record since its launch. In an industry where wallet exploits make headlines with depressing regularity, that is a credential Zengo leans on heavily.
The eToro connection
This integration does not exist in a vacuum. eToro acquired Zengo for approximately $70 million in April 2026, marking the trading platform’s push into self-custody crypto management.
Zengo continues to operate independently, even as its technology gets folded into the eToro platform. That arrangement lets the wallet keep its own brand and roadmap while benefiting from a much larger parent.
Founded in 2018, Zengo built its reputation on making security feel less like homework. The Avalanche addition fits a broader pattern of the company widening its network support.
Avalanche is not the first chain to get this treatment. Zengo already integrates with Solana and Chiliz Chain, among others.
On the fiat side, Zengo holds exclusive conversion partnerships with MoonPay. That handles the on-ramp problem, where newcomers need a way to turn regular money into crypto without bouncing between apps.
Why Avalanche wants this
Avalanche is a Layer-1 blockchain designed for high throughput and scalability. In plain terms, it is built to handle a lot of transactions quickly without grinding to a halt.
Wallet integrations are those on-ramps. Every wallet that adds native support for a chain lowers the friction for its existing users to try that network.
Plugging into Zengo gives Avalanche direct access to an installed base it did not have to acquire itself. Those users are already comfortable with self-custody and already hold crypto in a mobile app.
What this means for the self-custody race
The deal highlights a shift that has been building for a while. Self-custody is moving from niche practice to something mainstream financial platforms want to own.
eToro buying Zengo was the clearest signal of that. A brokerage that made its name in retail trading decided it was worth paying approximately $70 million to control a self-custody product.
That said, MPC wallets come with their own tradeoffs. Users are trusting the provider’s architecture and recovery system, which is a different kind of trust than holding a raw private key.
Zengo’s security record helps its case here. But any wallet carrying assets for millions of people becomes a target, and that track record will need to hold as the user base grows.
