That pace looks even sharper when you rewind a bit further. By July 2026, $USDC deposits on Morpho had already jumped 86% to $2.8 billion.
The July surge came while DeFi’s total value locked was declining across the sector. Morpho was filling up while the broader pool was draining.
The protocol’s overall footprint is considerably larger than its $USDC balance. Total deposits across Morpho are estimated at approximately $14–17 billion in recent months, with $USDC making up a substantial share.
The research behind those figures describes Morpho as the leading venue for $USDC-based credit.
How the machine works
The core layer is Morpho Blue, a set of variable-rate lending markets. Rates float with supply and demand.
On top of that sits a newer product called Morpho Midnight, a fixed-rate lending layer. Fixed rates let borrowers and lenders lock in terms.
Then there are Morpho Vaults. These are pools managed by third-party curators who decide where deposited capital gets allocated.
The vaults have been a major source of inflows, according to the research findings. An upcoming feature called the Midnight Adapter is set to let vaults route existing liquidity into fixed-rate allocations.
Morpho also reports roughly 90% utilization in its core markets.
The Coinbase and Robinhood effect
Much of the growth traces back to integrations with large, mainstream platforms. Coinbase and Robinhood both plug into Morpho, giving the protocol access to user bases that may never touch a DeFi interface directly.
Coinbase’s Morpho-powered $USDC lending product offers a useful window. Cumulative originations had passed $2.17 billion by April 2026. Active loans exceeded $1.4 billion by mid-September.
Expanding on other fronts
$USDC is not the only line on Morpho’s chart moving upward. Its real-world asset markets, which tie lending to offchain assets, have surpassed $2 billion in deposits.
The protocol has also been deploying on new chains. Its deployment on Arc reached $500 million in deposits quickly after launch.
What this means
For lenders, the record $USDC balance signals that stablecoin holders are increasingly treating DeFi lending as a place to park dollars and earn yield. The growth during a stretch of declining sector-wide TVL suggests capital is consolidating toward platforms seen as deep and reliable.
There are risks worth watching. High utilization is a sign of efficient capital, but it can also mean less spare liquidity if many lenders try to withdraw at once. The curator-driven vault model also places meaningful trust in third parties making allocation decisions on depositors’ behalf.
Concentration cuts both ways too. Integrations with major platforms accelerate growth, but they also tie a meaningful share of Morpho’s activity to the product decisions of a few large partners.
