Notable Change in Banks’ Crypto Portfolios!
Recent data released by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) reveals a significant shift in the cryptocurrency portfolios of banks in the Americas.
According to Ledger Insights, citing BCBS data, Bitcoin’s ($BTC) share of cryptocurrency exposure among US banks has decreased from 75.8% to 44.2%.
At this point, $BTC has lost a significant portion of its weighting within the cryptocurrency risk portfolios of banks in the United States.
Ethereum’s Share Rises, $XRP and Solana Listed!
In response to the decline in Bitcoin, Ethereum’s share has seen a significant increase. Ethereum’s share of banks’ cryptocurrency risk in the Americas has risen to 38.5%.
Solana and $XRP were also among the other notable crypto assets in the portfolio. $SOL’s share was recorded at 7.8%, while $XRP’s share was 5.6%.
Another noteworthy aspect of the data is that there was no significant change in the total crypto asset risk of banks. Therefore, the figures do not directly show how much Bitcoin banks sold or how much altcoin they bought during the period in question. However, the change in the banks’ portfolio allocation reveals that the weight of Bitcoin decreased, while the share of ETH, $SOL, and $XRP increased significantly.
Customer Activity Also Increased in America!
According to BCBS data, there has also been a significant shift in cryptocurrency transactions conducted by banks on behalf of their clients. In the Americas, the volume of cryptocurrency transactions carried out by banks on behalf of their clients increased by 93% compared to the previous period, reaching €6.4 billion. In Europe, however, similar client transactions decreased by 25%, falling to €1.9 billion.
