Polymarket already offered longer-duration traditional-asset bets. As The Defiant previously reported, its April integration with Pyth Pro supported daily up/down and daily close markets covering metals and equities. Separately, Polymarket announced five-minute crypto contracts in its U.S. app on Oct. 27.
Spot Readings Determine the Winner
The metals contracts use Chainlink’s XAU/USD stream for gold and XAG/USD stream for silver. The international rules compare the opening and closing prices, with ties resolving Up; their market configurations disable time-weighted averaging.
The U.S. settlement rules specify single spot values for the exact start and end of each window, rather than the 60-second averages used by its crypto markets. Gold is rounded to the nearest cent and silver to three decimal places, with ties after rounding settling Up.
U.S. trading opens at the start of each window, but the opening reference price typically appears about a minute later. That means traders can begin placing bets before the price they need to beat is visible.
Trading costs depend on the venue and contract price. U.S. metals listings carry a 0.0695 taker-fee coefficient: under the exchange’s standard schedule, a taker trading 100 contracts at 50 cents pays about $1.74 before rebates. The international metals listings use a 0.07 coefficient, equivalent to $1.75 for the same trade under its fee formula. Takers are traders whose orders execute against existing orders.
The metals markets follow a Sunday 6:15 p.m. to Friday 5 p.m. ET schedule, with a daily break from 5 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. ET and holiday closures on the U.S. venue.
Chainlink communications representative Chris Barrett said Thursday that equities and foreign-exchange markets were next, writing, “with equities and forex coming next.” His post gave no launch date.
