This is an issue because Michigan is a crucial battleground state for Democrats, and strong union support could make Peters a strategic choice for Harris.

Rep. Dan Kildee (D-Mich.) emphasized that labor groups strongly favor someone who is pro-union, stating, “Gary fits that definition well.” Rep. Hillary Scholten (D-Mich.) mentioned she heard that Peters is being considered and highlighted his labor connections and role as chair of the Senate Homeland Security Committee.
