The companies announced the partnership on Monday under the name K-Stock Global Gateway. It combines Siebert’s U.S. brokerage infrastructure with Kakao Pay Securities’ reach inside South Korea, where the firm holds roughly 9 million stock accounts.
Tokenization Takes Aim at the Clock
The core problem the partnership targets is time. South Korean and U.S. markets sit on opposite sides of the globe, so a trader in New York cannot buy or sell Korean shares during the Korean trading session.
Siebert and Kakao Pay Securities plan to explore tokenizing South Korean equities to work around that gap. A tokenized share can trade on a blockchain-based system outside the hours of the underlying stock exchange, giving U.S. investors a path to Korean equities even when Seoul’s markets are closed.
The companies are also looking at whether tokenized securities can support T+0 settlement, meaning trades would settle the same day instead of the standard multiday cycle. Faster settlement would let investors access proceeds from a sale sooner.

Siebert Chief Executive Officer John J. Gebbia said Kakao Pay Securities’ choosing Siebert as its U.S. partner validates the financial infrastructure Siebert has built. He said tokenization is an important first opportunity, but the partnership is designed to go further, connecting investors in both markets to products that were previously hard to reach.
Kakao Pay Securities Chief Executive Officer Simon Shin said the goal is to build a global gateway for Korean shares by pairing his firm’s technology, content, and community reach with Siebert’s U.S. market access.
A Broader Pipeline, Not a Single Product
Siebert and Kakao Pay Securities say tokenization is one piece of a larger plan. The two firms intend to identify additional ways to connect U.S. and Korean investors over time, including new financial products and cross-border investment opportunities.
The partnership also aims to combine brokerage access with market content and investor education. That would give American investors more context on South Korean companies, which are less familiar to U.S. retail traders than domestic names.
Regulatory Path Still Ahead
Nothing in the announcement is final. Siebert and Kakao Pay Securities both note that any implementation remains subject to regulatory requirements and investor protection standards in the U.S. and South Korea.
For now, the deal signals that a Nasdaq-listed U.S. brokerage sees tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) as a practical tool for solving a concrete problem: time zones separating global markets. Whether it becomes a working product for U.S. investors depends on what regulators in both countries allow over the next year.
