All about the JIOUSDT contract
Unlike buying shares through a traditional IPO, traders using JIOUSDT do not own any part of Jio Platforms. Instead, they trade a derivative contract whose price reflects market expectations about the company’s value.
The contract will operate 24/7, settle in $USDT, and offer leverage of up to 20x. For example, a trader putting up $100 as margin can control a $2,000 position using 20x leverage. However, a 5% move against the position could wipe out the initial margin, excluding fees and other factors.
The launch is significant because Jio Platforms is reportedly targeting a valuation of around $106 billion, potentially making it India’s largest-ever IPO. By offering the contract before the listing, Bitget is creating a market where traders can speculate on Jio’s potential valuation before actual shares begin trading.
Challenges ahead
However, JIOUSDT comes along with certain risks. Here, traders will receive no share ownership, voting rights, or dividends. Additionally, the contract price may differ from the eventual IPO price because it depends on market sentiment and estimated valuations.
Moreover, high leverage will further increase liquidation risk, meaning even relatively small price movements can result in substantial losses. This comes on the heels of Bitget detecting suspicious transfers from its online wallets on the 24th of September, with the exchange estimating losses of around $351.6 million.
Final Summary
- The JIOUSDT contract will operate 24/7, settle in $USDT, and offer leverage of up to 20x.
- But traders will not receive any share ownership, voting rights, or dividends.
