While the market debates whether Bitcoin has bottomed, the stakes are higher than ever this cycle.
Sentiment-wise, $BTC still doesn’t look like it’s at a definitive bottom. As one analyst pointed out, positioning is more net negative than at any stage of previous bear markets.
Exchange volumes have collapsed, sentiment remains at extreme fear, and investors continue to capitulate, signaling weak conviction.
Notably, that weakness is now showing up on-chain. As the chart below highlights, August started with aggressive loss selling from short-term holders (STHs).
On the 1st of August, STHs sent more than 32,000 $BTC to exchanges at a loss, one of the largest realized loss-selling events of the past 30 days, signaling that capitulation is still playing out.
Against this backdrop, any break below key support could quickly turn into an exit-liquidity event.
The picture looks even weaker when we zoom in on U.S. investor positioning. Despite the U.S.-Iran peace talks and oil prices crashing more than 10%, Bitcoin’s Coinbase Premium Index has already dropped nearly 25% so far in August.
