After weeks of review, South Korean cryptocurrency exchange Upbit has declared that it will delist Bonk Inu ($BONK), citing unresolved security and compliance issues. The ruling is another instance of Korean exchanges adopting a more stringent approach to investor protection, and it comes after $BONK was designated as a ‘trading caution’ asset in early July 2026.
$BONK Trading support isn’t supported
Upbit claims that trading support for $BONK will expire on September 7, 2026, at 15:00 KST, at which point all pending buy and sell orders will be automatically canceled. Until October 7, 2026, users will still have 30 days to withdraw their $BONK holdings. The exchange clarified that neither market performance nor trading volume had any bearing on its decision.
Rather, it highlighted issues found during its examination in accordance with South Korea’s guidelines for virtual asset listing. According to Upbit, it discovered unresolved problems with security incidents involving wallets or the underlying blockchain infrastructure, pointing out that the causes had not been adequately identified or fixed.
The project’s handling of material disclosures was also criticized by the exchange, which claimed that crucial information was not conveyed in a timely and suitable manner. In July, Upbit put $BONK under increased surveillance and then carried out another evaluation to see if the problems had been resolved.
Trading support ends
The exchange decided to end trading support in line with its policy for delisting digital assets after concluding that the issues were still unresolved. The announcement emphasizes how South Korean exchanges have tightened listing requirements in response to regulatory reforms meant to increase transparency and lower risks for individual investors.
In order to stay listed, projects must now uphold strict security procedures, make timely public disclosures, and exhibit strong governance. Although $BONK has suffered a major setback in the Korean market as a result of the delisting, the token’s accessibility on foreign cryptocurrency exchanges is unaffected.
The measure should not be taken as proof that the Bonk project has ceased operations; rather, it is specific to Upbit’s compliance framework. Investors who own $BONK on Upbit are advised to withdraw their holdings prior to the withdrawal deadline in order to prevent any issues after the token’s support is completely discontinued.
