Long-time $SHIB community member Mazrael weighed in, explaining the reason for this. ShibTorch collects BONE from Shibarium fees, swaps its share to $SHIB and burns it on Ethereum. The Shib.io ShibTorch page gets every number from an indexer that no longer exists, so it shows “failed to load burn information.”
Aside from this constraint, the bridge that marks the $SHIB route has been paused. “But you need the bridge to work for ShibTorch, and it is still collecting BONE gas fees,” Mazrael added.
Citing Shibwatch, Mazrael explained further why nothing is burning on Shibtorch. First, the Shibarium-based burn portal needs 1,000 BONE to trigger a burn. Currently, only 371.37 of the 1,000 BONE needed has been collected, so the contract refuses to start a burn.
Second, the Ethereum half (route) cannot finish. This is because the ‘exitandburn’ claims $SHIB through the bridge’s ERC20 lane and the ‘rootchainmanager’ has not been allowed to release ERC20s from escrow since the 2025 exploit.
Mazrael noted that a potential burn might continue to fail until the bridge for the $SHIB route is opened again. He explained the workings of ShibTorch, saying, “First swaps BONE to $SHIB on Shibarium then bridges to the dead wallet on ETH.
69.32 billion $SHIB burned
While the indexer that feeds the Shib.io website information on how much $SHIB has been burned through the ShibTorch portal remains unavailable, Mazrael extracts data from the ShibWatch tracker which provides this same data from the contracts instead.
Under ecosystem burns, 69.32 billion $SHIB has been burned by Shibarium’s $SHIB Torch, according to ShibWatch. This is worth a total of $1.27 million at the price when each burn happened.
Mazrael believes that ShibTorch might be the biggest burn source for $SHIB after Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.
In May 2021, Buterin sent 410.24 trillion $SHIB tokens to dead wallets in one of the largest crypto burns ever. ShibTorch is currently under maintenance, according to Mazrael, as the bridge and other portions of the infrastructure are being worked on.
