TRON became one of the first blockchain networks to actively upgrade its native cryptographic foundations to address the advance of quantum computing. The network announced the deployment of build GreatVoyage-v4.8.2-PQ1-build1 on its Nile testnet, a mandatory update for nodes on that network that introduces support for two post-quantum signature schemes standardized by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST): Falcon-512 and ML-DSA-44.
The scope of the update is quite considerable. It covers transaction signing, block production signatures by super representatives, handshakes between P2P nodes and signature verification in smart contracts within the TRON Virtual Machine (TVM).
However, the new functionalities do not activate automatically: they require a governance proposal to go through the network committee’s on-chain process before any transition to the mainnet, currently projected for the third quarter of 2026.
TRON is taking the next step toward long-term blockchain security.

TRON Is Ready for the Quantum Threat
Most public blockchains, including TRON, use the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm (ECDSA) over the secp256k1 curve, the same cryptographic foundation used by Bitcoin. The concern among the research community is that a sufficiently powerful quantum computer, running Shor’s algorithm, could theoretically derive a private key from a public one, compromising the security of every wallet on any major network.
Falcon-512 and ML-DSA-44 are designed to resist that type of attack. Falcon is grounded in lattice-based mathematics, while ML-DSA-44 is a variant of CRYSTALS-Dilithium, another scheme selected by NIST. Justin Sun, founder of TRON, publicly endorsed the DAO’s announcement, stating that the network will be the first to be resistant to quantum computing and that post-quantum security is a central demand of the artificial intelligence era.
The Industry Is Also Preparing
The Ethereum Foundation launched a website dedicated to layer 1 post-quantum readiness in March 2026, projecting improvements only for 2029. The Solana Foundation already deployed post-quantum digital signatures on its own testnet. Meanwhile, Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong announced in January 2026 an independent advisory council focused on quantum computing and blockchain security, and Google set 2029 as the deadline to migrate its infrastructure to post-quantum cryptography.
