New York City Mayor Eric Adams says technology, including cryptocurrency, could play a role in tackling some of society’s most difficult problems, from rising antisemitism to violence and the education of young people.
Speaking about his future plans and priorities, Adams said he wants to use technology in a more meaningful way to improve lives, especially for children and families.
“I want to use technology like cryptocurrency to improve the lives of our children and go after hate in a real way,” Adams said, pointing specifically to antisemitism, which he described as a growing global concern.
Using Technology for Social Impact
Adams, who has long described himself as a supporter of innovation, said cryptocurrency is one of many tools that has not yet been fully used for social good. He believes it can help fund education, support communities, and address violence when applied responsibly.
“I’ve always wanted to uplift families and children,” he said, adding that technology offers new ways to do that beyond traditional systems.
While Adams did not outline a detailed crypto-based program, he hinted that blockchain tools could support transparency, education initiatives, and community-focused efforts aimed at countering hate.
Technology as Part of the Future
However, while Adams acknowledged that cryptocurrency is not a cure-all, he made clear that he sees it as part of a broader toolkit for addressing modern challenges.
“There’s more to say in the years to come,” he said.
For Adams, the message was simple: innovation, when paired with responsibility, can help confront hate, support communities, and prepare the city for the future.
Advice on Public Safety
Adams also offered advice on crime and public safety, urging the next administration to build on existing work rather than start over. He praised Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch for her leadership and use of technology in reducing violence.
“Public safety is not an experiment,” Adams said, encouraging hands-on leadership from day one, including visits to precincts and the subway system.
He also warned that threats, including terrorism, have not disappeared, even if they are less visible, and said strong coordination with state and federal partners remains essential.
