Artificial intelligence is becoming the new interface for the internet. MoonPay believes buying crypto should be as simple as asking an AI assistant.
With the launch of its crypto onramp inside Claude, the company is now live across ChatGPT, Claude, Grok and Perplexity, becoming the first crypto onramp available across all four major AI assistants. The expansion gives MoonPay access to platforms that collectively reach an estimated one billion users.
“The general population will never download an exchange app for crypto, but a billion of them already talk to an AI every day,” said Efren Plasencia, GTM Lead at MoonPay Labs. “Money needs to move where the conversation happens, so MoonPay built the payments layer that spans Claude, Grok, Perplexity, and ChatGPT.”
The integration means users can now ask an AI assistant to buy crypto and send it directly to their wallet without leaving the conversation, making digital asset purchases feel more like chatting than navigating an exchange.
Buying Crypto Through Conversation
The Claude integration is powered by Anthropic’s Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard that allows AI assistants to securely interact with external applications and services.
Instead of opening an exchange, copying wallet addresses or switching between multiple apps, users can simply ask Claude to purchase cryptocurrency using natural language.
Behind the scenes, MoonPay processes every transaction through its regulated payment infrastructure while the AI assistant manages the conversation.
The result is an experience that feels less like using a crypto exchange and more like asking an intelligent assistant to complete a task.
Building the Payment Layer for AI
Claude is the latest milestone in a strategy MoonPay has been steadily building over the past year.
The company was the first crypto onramp to integrate with ChatGPT, before expanding to Grok and Perplexity. It has also introduced MoonPay Agents, the Open Wallet Standard, and the MoonAgents Card, a virtual Mastercard that enables both users and AI agents to spend onchain assets.
Taken together, those products point toward a future where AI doesn’t simply answer questions—it actively manages financial transactions on behalf of users.
Rather than building separate payment experiences for every AI assistant, MoonPay is positioning itself as the infrastructure connecting AI models to the crypto economy.
Trust Still Matters
While the user experience may feel conversational, the financial infrastructure remains highly regulated.
Every transaction continues to run through MoonPay’s existing compliance framework, including KYC verification, licensing requirements, a New York BitLicense, and MiCA authorization across the European Union.
The AI handles the interaction. MoonPay handles the money. That distinction may become increasingly important as AI assistants begin taking a more active role in financial services.
AI Is Becoming Crypto’s New Front Door
As millions of people adopt AI assistants as their primary interface for finding information and completing everyday tasks, crypto companies are increasingly treating those assistants as the next gateway into Web3.
Buying digital assets may soon become as simple as asking: “Buy $100 of Bitcoin and send it to my wallet.”
