Decentralized perpetuals exchange Lighter has made Robinhood Stock Tokens eligible as trading collateral on Robinhood Chain, letting users post tokenized equities such as NVDA, GOOG and AAPL as margin for perpetual futures.
The move expands Lighter’s accepted collateral beyond the USDG stablecoin, which had served as both the collateral and quote asset since Robinhood Chain’s mainnet launch on July 1. It follows Lighter’s earlier stated plan to add assets including tokenized gold, bitcoin and stocks as collateral during the third quarter, and builds on its shift to unified collateral across spot and futures trading.
Robinhood Stock Tokens
Robinhood Stock Tokens are ERC-20 tokenized debt securities issued by Robinhood Assets (Jersey) Limited that provide economic exposure to underlying US shares and ETFs without granting legal or beneficial rights in those securities, according to Robinhood Chain’s documentation. Each token carries a live Chainlink price feed, allowing on-chain contracts to read prices directly and use the tokens in trading and lending applications.
Lighter, a zero-knowledge rollup exchange founded in 2022 by Vladimir Novakovski, went live on mainnet in October 2025. It raised $68 million at a roughly $1.5 billion valuation last November in a round that included Robinhood Ventures, and serves as Robinhood Chain’s perpetuals partner under a 50-50 revenue split.
US Users Excluded
The Stock Tokens are not registered under US securities laws and, per Robinhood’s documentation, may not be offered, sold or delivered to US persons, with additional restrictions in jurisdictions including Canada, the UK and Switzerland. That limits the new collateral option to eligible non-US users, leaving Robinhood’s roughly 24 million US-funded accounts outside the product for now.
