Binance founder Changpeng “CZ” Zhao outlined his vision for crypto’s future, linking digital assets with artificial intelligence while highlighting policy shifts, education ventures, and global advisory roles.
At a “Fireside Chat” during WebX in Tokyo, CZ described a dramatic shift in US crypto policy.
CZ Praises Trump’s Policy Shift
He noted that President Donald Trump openly backed digital assets in July 2024, contrasting sharply with the previous administration’s adversarial stance.
“During the prior administration, it felt like being in prison due to hostile regulation,” CZ said. He praised Trump-era developments, citing three enacted bills, including legislation on stablecoins and the Genius Act, while opposing central bank digital currencies (CBDCs). According to CZ, the administration recognizes crypto’s disruptive nature but views embracing innovation as preferable to falling behind globally.
On the rise of artificial intelligence, CZ predicted that crypto would become AI’s natural medium of exchange. “AI won’t use traditional fiat like the US dollar or Japanese yen. It won’t rely on banks or credit cards,” he said.
He argued that banks are designed for humans, while blockchains offer programmable APIs that can directly interface with AI agents. Looking ahead, CZ envisioned hundreds or thousands of AI agents operating per person, multiplying economic activity by factors of 100 or 1,000. Many of those transactions, he suggested, would occur as microtransactions on blockchain networks.
Education, Policy Advising, and Entrepreneurial Guidance
Since stepping down from Binance, CZ has focused on education through his project Giggle Academy, which already serves about 50,000 children. He estimated that fully digitizing 18 years of schooling could cost $300 million, far less than the US government’s $110 billion annual education budget.
CZ also revealed that he advises at least 12 governments and world leaders, both formally and informally, on regulation, stablecoins, CBDCs, and broader crypto adoption. He praised the UAE’s leadership for embracing innovation, adding that small nations with strong governance often progress fastest.
For entrepreneurs, CZ urged ethical practices and long-term product development over short-term profits. He encouraged founders to create products that generate genuine value and align passion with market need.
Looking forward, CZ said he intends to mentor and coach new founders, while his investment firm EZ Labs will back early-stage projects, offering not only capital but also strategic support.
