Bitcoin is ending July 2026 with a solid gain of around 9.93%, completing a long-awaited reversal after the heavy declines of May and June. The leading cryptocurrency briefly climbed above $65,000, but historical statistics by CryptoRank and technical indicators are warning investors that it may be too early to celebrate, with the most treacherous month of the year still ahead.
The main argument against buying right now is Bitcoin’s specific seasonality, tied to the global four-year macroeconomic and political cycle. According to historical CoinGlass data, August has closed deeply in the red during every comparable period of this cycle.
In 2014, it dropped 17.55%; in 2018, it declined 9.27%; and in 2022, it lost 13.88% — the average decline during these periods stands at 13.6%. Although August’s overall average return across all years appears deceptively positive at 1.12%, the market median is unforgiving at -7.49%.
Statistically, a strong July is almost always followed by a severe seasonal hangover.
The technical picture as of July 31 confirms these historical concerns. The daily BTC/USD chart clearly shows that July’s rebound ran out of momentum directly at strong resistance in the $65,000–$65,500 zone.
Friday’s candle is closing down 1.43%, pushing the price toward $63,773. Looking at the broader picture, Bitcoin remains trapped in a medium-term downtrend from its July 2025 peak of $120,000, with each new local high coming in below the previous one.

The fundamental backdrop is also working against the bulls, as institutional investors are losing incentives to maintain their positions.
The long-awaited U.S. crypto market regulation bill, the CLARITY Act, has officially stalled in the Senate. Majority Leader John Thune confirmed that no vote will take place before Congress leaves for recess on August 7, causing the odds of the bill passing this year to fall to 27% on prediction markets.
At the same time, the Federal Reserve’s hawkish stance under Kevin Warsh has kept interest rates elevated at 3.50%–3.75%. Combined with the 10-year U.S. Treasury yield of 4.68%, this continues to drain liquidity from risk assets in favor of the dollar.
While regulators head into recess and the chart remains pressed against resistance, historical statistics may be preparing to take their toll. For Bitcoin buyers, August risks beginning with a reality check.
