Voting power was snapshotted on Aug. 13 at block 155,526,433, one week before voting closed. Any OP bought or delegated after that snapshot could not count toward the proposal. The Optimism Foundation said broad user airdrops no longer match Optimism’s institutional adoption strategy and that the unspent tokens could instead support partnerships, incentives and enterprise deals. It proposed reporting cumulative deployment through its annual budget report, according to the proposal. Ethereum scaling research platform L2BEAT objected to the open-ended authority, an unclear link to tokenholder value and the absence of a review of earlier partnership spending, while pseudonymous rollup researcher…

As Ethereum [$ETH] advanced toward $2500, traders went all-in, adding massive amounts of leverage on both Binance and Bybit. The combined Open Interest (OI) on these two exchanges grew by $1.12 billion over the seven days ending on the 22nd of August, after traders began to chase Ethereum’s breakout. Recently, that momentum has dramatically fallen off. As of the 30th of August, the leverage collapsed 90.9% to just $102 million. Binance fell from $843 million to $94 million, while Bybit plunged from $277 million to $8 million. Source: CryptoQuant However, $ETH is still trading near $2500, even though derivatives are…

The U.S. consumer price index for July delivered exactly what forecasters expected, and for crypto traders, the absence of a macro shock was the story. Headline CPI rose 3.4% year-over-year, the same as projections and a tick below the prior 3.5%. Core CPI, which strips out food and energy, landed at 2.5% annually, matching estimates and easing from 2.6% the month before. The numbers, sourced from the original report, produced no immediate volatility spike in digital asset markets, but they left plenty of questions about the Federal Reserve’s timeline unanswered. A 0.2% monthly rise in seasonally adjusted core CPI and…

If you bought during the first big altcoin wave in 2018, there is a fair chance a block of ICX is sitting in your portfolio or in an old wallet. The token of the ICON blockchain was a top-30 coin back then, and that is exactly the sort of position nobody looks at again for years. With ICX that now gets expensive: the ICON Foundation has announced the end of the chain, and there is a date after which a forgotten holding can no longer be rescued. In German there is next to nothing to be found on this. On…

Donald Trump Jr. reportedly urged Republican state attorneys general earlier this year not to pursue prediction markets. Various legal battles already threaten to determine whether platforms like Kalshi and Polymarket are regulated as federally overseen financial exchanges or state-controlled gambling operations. At a Republican Attorneys General Association event in New Orleans in March, Trump Jr. argued that states were being influenced by gambling companies trying to protect their “monopolies,” according to The New York Times. He reportedly said prediction markets should instead fall under federal oversight. The remarks attracted attention because Trump Jr. has ties to both major prediction market…

“Stablecoin-funded cards are one example of how digital assets are becoming more deeply embedded in everyday life, giving users greater flexibility in how they spend, move and access their money.” Crypto cards let users spend stablecoins and other assets through existing payment networks without requiring merchants to accept cryptocurrencies directly. Depending on the product, users deposit funds with the issuer or keep them in a self-custody wallet, and the balance is converted at checkout so the merchant receives it in their local currency. This means stablecoins are not necessarily replacing Visa or Mastercard at checkout. Increasingly, they are becoming another…

Bitcoin developer and JAN3 CEO Samson Mow has urged the Bitcoin community not to rush into adopting post-quantum (PQ) cryptography. He has warned that an overly hasty transition could expose the network to more immediate risks than the quantum threat it is actually meant to address. His comments come after Anthropic published research showing that its AI model, Mythos Preview, discovered new attacks against weakened cryptographic algorithms. No need to rush Mow has argued that Bitcoin’s conservative development philosophy should remain unchanged despite concerns over quantum computing. “A few months ago I cautioned against hastily moving Bitcoin to PQ signatures,…

An Ethereum address believed to be associated with Bitmine has withdrawn 20,000 $ETH, valued at approximately $49.42 million, from the cryptocurrency exchange FalconX. The transaction was flagged by blockchain tracking platform Onchain Lens, which identified the wallet as likely belonging to Bitmine, a major cryptocurrency mining operation. Exchange Outflow Signals Accumulation Large withdrawals from exchanges are often interpreted by market analysts as a sign of accumulation, as investors move assets into private wallets for long-term holding rather than for immediate trading. This pattern suggests that Bitmine may be increasing its Ethereum reserves, possibly in anticipation of future price appreciation or…
