How Coinbase plans to force-settle and instantly recreate institutional positions on Deribit within a 30-minute window
Coinbase expects to move Coinbase International Exchange institutional accounts, balances, and positions to Deribit on Sept. 9, a planned cutover that would cancel open orders, settle positions at market prices, and recreate them on Deribit. The change applies to International Exchange institutional clients, not the retail migration path for Coinbase app and website users. Clients that do not want to migrate should treat Aug. 28 as the boundary. Coinbase’s institutional migration FAQ labels it the last day to opt out by closing positions and separately says a client that does not wish to migrate must close its International Exchange account…
In brief Bitcoin price bounced to $65,000 today, but the rally was short-lived. The price of Bitcoin is up on the seven-day chart, but bearish technical indicators persist. Prediction market traders are split: odds on Myriad point to more short-term pain, but not yet in “worst case” scenario territory, Bitcoin got the macro excuse to run. It didn’t take it. Employers cut 23,000 jobs in July—the first net loss since the pandemic-era recovery and a sharp miss against the 95,000 gain economists expected, Decrypt reported Friday. Markets read it as a reason for the Federal Reserve to keep its hands…
Bitdeer Technologies Group said on Aug. 4 that its Tydal Data Center subsidiary signed a 16-year colocation and services agreement with Volta Tydal AS for an artificial intelligence and high-performance computing campus in Norway. The contract covers 121 megawatts of critical IT capacity, supported by about 133 MW of total power. Bitdeer expects approximately $4.7 billion in contracted payments during the initial term. A one-time eight-year renewal option could raise the potential contract value to about $8 billion over 24 years. Bitdeer’s $4.7 billion deal contracts 121 MW The agreement assigns the full 121 MW to Volta, which plans to…
Delegated representatives — or stakeholders that ADA holders elect to vote on governance proposals on their behalf, similar to representatives in a parliament — voted 78.97% in favor against a 60% threshold. The constitutional committee, a body of elected members that rules only on whether a proposal complies with the Cardano Constitution rather than on its merits, found the hard fork compliant, with all seven members agreeing where five were required. (Cardanoscan)Interestingly, the pool operators who actually run Cardano’s infrastructure approved the community’s first self-directed hard fork by the narrowest of its three margins, with 53.02% of operators voting to…
Corporate crypto accounts on HTX face a complete dead end with zero legal exit routes when EU sanctions strike on August 23
EU sanctions rules will bar direct and indirect transactions with $HTX from Aug. 23 when those dealings fall within the bloc’s jurisdiction. For some individuals still needing to exit the exchange, an ordinary withdrawal will then require a narrow authorization from a national authority. Council Regulation (EU) 2026/1848 lists “$HTX (HUOBI GLOBAL SA)” in Annex XLV and sets Aug. 23, 2026, as the date the restriction applies. Article 5ad prohibits transactions with listed entities. Later amendments extend that prohibition to entities acting on behalf of or at the direction of a listed entity, as well as qualifying crypto-asset or payment…
Kraken is force-selling 7 delisted tokens into dead markets, warning users insufficient liquidity could result in zero proceeds.
Kraken will begin automatically liquidating seven delisted tokens today, Aug. 3 after closing withdrawals for affected clients. Any PLANCK, AIR, MICHI, FLY, ANLOG, TERM or STRD left on the exchange is due to be sold during a five-day window that runs through Aug. 7, according to Kraken’s published schedule. This is a disposal of residual spot balances, not leveraged positions or margin calls. Clients can no longer move the affected assets off Kraken because the withdrawal cutoff passed at 14:00 UTC on July 31. Kraken says it will liquidate the balances automatically based on prevailing market conditions. Kraken published the…
American Bitcoin exchange-traded funds have had their biggest weekly inflow since April, taking in $850 million last week, according to Bloomberg figures. The major U.S. funds managed by BlackRock, Fidelity, Grayscale, Morgan Stanley and others have received the cash the week after hackers targeted Coinkite’s popular Coldcard product. Hackers started stealing millions in Bitcoin from Coldcard wallets after discovering a vulnerability in the product’s software. Some estimates put the amount of Bitcoin lost now at over $130 million. JUST IN: BlackRock tells Bloomberg they’ve “seen consistently” that Bitcoin ETF investors are buying and holding $BTC “long term” on this dip…
