Base said AI agents are becoming a new class of internet customers as wallets, stablecoins, and x402 payment rails allow them to pay for online services without constant human intervention.
The network said agents are already using Base to pay for inference, live search, market data, browser sessions, research workflows, travel tools, and other services. The shift follows an earlier wave of agent activity focused mainly on social posting, media creation, community building, and token launches.
Between October 2024 and February 2025, nearly 16,000 agents launched on Base through Virtuals, an AI agent platform that lets users create agents and tokens. Since then, Base said agents have started handling more complex workflows as AI models improved at planning, using tools, and maintaining context.
The network said x402 has become a key piece of this activity by allowing payments to become part of regular internet requests. Over the last 30 days as of May 29, 2026, x402 activity on Base reached 3.1 million transactions and $1.2 million in value transferred, while sellers grew 23% and buyers grew 37%.
Base said the emerging agentic economy is being built around services that agents need to complete tasks. Research agents need sources, finance agents need market data and execution tools, travel agents need pricing and booking paths, and hiring agents need job listings, salary data, and company context.
The ecosystem already includes services such as Venice for inference payments, BlockRunAI for access to more than 50 AI models with USDC settlement, Browserbase for paid cloud browser sessions, Exa for web search and content data, Wolfram Alpha for computation, and Tripadvisor, FlightAware, and Amadeus for travel related workflows.
Base also highlighted support from larger developer platforms. Cloudflare supports x402 and is a member of the x402 foundation, while Amazon Bedrock AgentCore Payments brings x402 and Coinbase wallet infrastructure into enterprise agent workflows.
The next phase, according to Base, is agents earning money rather than only spending it. Agents with wallets could sell research, run paid services, accept payments, hire other agents, and cover their own operating costs through the same rails that let them buy services.
Base said early examples already exist, including Felix, an agent that has reported more than $261,395 in revenue from agent run products, and Kelly Claude, another agent with revenue across app building services, books, and app sales.
To reduce friction, Base said agents still need low cost transactions, wallets, stablecoins, machine readable prices, spend limits, receipts, permissions, audit trails, identity, reputation, and protocols they can use directly. The network said its Base MCP is designed to let agents interact with Base apps and help users trade, swap, lend, and operate onchain.
