The US has reached out to China through multiple diplomatic and unofficial channels in an attempt to restart talks, informed sources told Yuyuan Tantian, a social media account affiliated with Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
The new push comes amid growing signs from President Donald Trump and senior members of his economic and trade team that talks with Beijing are ongoing, with analysts suggesting the frequency and tone of these messages reflect a growing sense of urgency within the Trump administration.
“From a negotiation standpoint, the side that releases more frequent updates is usually under more pressure,” said one international trade expert. “Right now, that side looks to be the U.S.”
The Trump administration is reportedly grappling with mounting domestic challenges, including economic woes and growing public criticism of its trade policies. These pressures are thought to have increased Washington’s desire to bring China back to the negotiating table.
