The contributor identified two main categories of overlooked assets. The first is v3 buffer liquidity, with positions found for Ethena, Gauntlet and other users. Most entities had been notified and started withdrawing, according to the forum post.
Buffers hold liquidity in an underlying token and its yield-bearing counterpart to facilitate trades. Unlike ordinary pool deposits, they do not issue transferable pool tokens: shares are recorded internally in the Vault, according to Balancer’s documentation. That makes them easy to overlook in a wallet’s token holdings. Balancer says they may not appear on block explorers, DeBank or other portfolio dashboards.
The second category is legacy v2 liquidity-mining rewards. Some users had withdrawn their liquidity but left partner rewards unclaimed. The contributor cited LDO rewards belonging to Gnosis DAO and its stakeholders, alongside similar positions for other historical users.
How Users Can Check and Exit
The forum post directs users to the Balancer Portfolio page for supported legacy positions and rewards. Its checklist also includes v3 buffer shares, partner reward distributors, and old operational wallets and Safes.
For buffers, the Vault’s `getBufferOwnerShares` function returns an address’s shares for a specified wrapped token. Withdrawals use `removeLiquidityFromBuffer` directly on the Vault; only the share-owning account can remove the liquidity.
Balancer says its legacy interface will remain available for withdrawing from v1, v2 and v3 pools and unstaking gauge positions. Its manual exit guide explains direct contract exits, including identifying positions, verifying contract addresses and simulating withdrawals. Users needing help can open a support ticket through Balancer’s Discord.
The shutdown milestones are not general withdrawal deadlines. Balancer says liquidity providers can withdraw before or after those dates. Its buffer contract interface also specifies that liquidity can still be removed when buffers are paused. The user notice describes legacy rewards as still claimable but announces no rewards-claim cutoff.
Under the wind-down plan, recovery mode is to be enabled where needed to preserve pool withdrawals. Bug bounty coverage ends on Oct. 30, including for v3 pools allowed to remain live until November.
