B3, a layer-3 gaming chain built on top of the Ethereum layer-2 network Base, announced plans this week to launch its own token—also called B3.
Built by former members of the Base team from Coinbase, B3 caters to both game developers and players, offering a dedicated network that enables cheaper and faster transactions than Ethereum’s own mainnet.
Soon that space will be powered by the B3 token—an ecosystem token that the developers say will incentivize and empower those playing, creating, and publishing on-chain games via the B3 ecosystem.

“B3 collaborates across ecosystems, prioritizing the bigger opportunity: an open on-chain ecosystem that game studios, developers and brands can easily adopt with a UX that anyone can play,” the project posted on X (formerly known as Twitter).
The network launched its mainnet in August 2024 and has attracted more than 6 million players and 80 games to date. According to B3, more than five dedicated “gamechains” will launch in the B3 ecosystem this quarter, too.
Leading up to its token plans, players and builders in the ecosystem have had the opportunity to earn BP and XP, B3’s points programs that reward builders and players for contributing and participating with its open gaming ecosystem.
Documentation for the platform indicates that BP and XP will eventually be redeemable for tokens, though the ratios are currently unknown. A spokesperson for B3 told Decrypt that details regarding the B3 token launch are “coming soon.”
B3 launched its gaming arcade BSMNT (aka “Basement”) in August 2024, offering players a multitude of mini games and more. Since that time, it has attracted notable Web3 game publishers like Parallel Studios, which plans to launch its 3D shooter called Project Tau Ceti on the network.
