‘Assassin’s Creed’ Maker Ubisoft Just Joined Another Crypto Gaming Network

Ubisoft, the maker of smash gaming franchises like Assassin’s Creed and Just Dance, isn’t slowing down its embrace of blockchain gaming. In fact, the company just joined another gaming chain as a validator, adding it to the long list of projects it supports in the space.

XPLA, a blockchain network founded by traditional gaming firm Com2uS, announced late Thursday that Ubisoft has joined as a new validator for its ecosystem. Validators are responsible for verifying the integrity of the XPLA blockchain and analyzing on-chain data to improve operations. There are now 64 validators participating, according to XPLA.

“We are thrilled to welcome Ubisoft as an XPLA validator,” said XPLA Team Lead Paul Kim, in a statement. “Together, we will cooperate to create a more transparent and trustworthy Web3 ecosystem, striving to provide an attractive gaming experience to players worldwide.”

Ubisoft has already thrown similar support behind the networks Tezos, Hedera, and Cronos in the past, and has supported various projects both through investments and inclusion in its Entrepreneurs Lab program for startups.

“We are thrilled to join the XPLA mainnet as a validator and support its vision of a decentralized Web3 gaming ecosystem,” said Laetitia Leclerc, Business Analyst for Blockchain Nodes at Ubisoft, in a release. “This partnership opens exciting new perspectives for collaboration, as we aim to create engaging and rewarding experiences for both web3 players and developers.”

The XPLA Foundation operates the mainnet, which has participation from companies like Com2uS, Google Cloud, Animoca Brands, and others. It has onboarded several crypto games, including titles based on popular IP like Summoners War and The Walking Dead.

Ubisoft, meanwhile, has done more than just support various chains in the space. It has launched NFT-based experiments in the past and released NFTs based on its Rabbids IP and others via The Sandbox.

Earlier this week, Ubisoft announced that it will bring its Watch Dogs game franchise into the NFT card-battler game Cross the Ages, which it previously invested in. Currently, Ubisoft is preparing its first original NFT game—Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles—for release via the Oasys blockchain.
