Zilliqa has announced that it has delayed the launch of its Zilliqa 2.0 mainnet to the end of April 2025. The decision was made after the team ran a series of stress tests on the proto-mainnet and tried to align all critical components with ecosystem partners. While the reason for the delay sounds reasonable, the ZIL token immediately corrected by 3.37% in the last 24 hours, falling to around $0.011.
Zilliqa said that the decision to delay the original schedule was made to ensure that all technical aspects of the new protocol are fully validated before the migration process takes place. This process involves auditing, testing features, and ensuring that all parts developed both internally and by partners are ready to go.
Earlier in December 2024, Zilliqa set the stage by launching Aventurine, a mainnet prototype designed as a testbed for the technology that will be implemented in Zilliqa 2.0. Before new features are rolled out to the mainnet, developers, validators, and delegators can test them there. Aventurine allows the team to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the system early on and address any issues. In addition to reducing risk, this tactic gives the community time to adapt to the changes.
