A quick ride to the past – It was the year 2013; Dogecoin (DOGE), created by Jackson Palmer and Billy Markus entered the cryptocurrency market.

DOGE was intended as a fun alternative to Bitcoin and other serious altcoins, so more or less a “meme coin.” Little did the creators know that their Shiba Inu dog-themed token would later move from meme to mainstream.

Over the years, DOGE garnered massive online support fueled by the solid community of Dogecoin fans across X (formerly Twitter), Reddit, etc. It soon became one of the most popular cryptocurrencies, earning celebrity endorsements, and gaining mainstream adoption, especially as a payment method.

Dogecoin’s low fees, ease of entry, and swift payment processing time have been integral in its appeal to merchants and customers alike. As a result, several businesses across various sectors began accepting Dogecoin payments for their products and services amid other options like debit/credit cards, bank transfers, etc.

Wondering which companies accept Dogecoin payments or where to spend Dogecoin?

This guide explores companies and industries already betting on Dogecoin as a viable payment method in today’s market.

A list of companies that accept Dogecoin payments

The mainstream adoption of Dogecoin as a payment option has seen significant growth over the years. According to CryptoWerk, DOGE could be spent at about 600+ merchants as of 2020.

More adoptions came in 2021, pushing the number upwards of 1,700+ merchants by September. As of 2024, the number of well-known companies and small businesses that accept DOGE is now well over 2,500, signaling a growing trend in merchants that accept crypto payments.

Let’s take a deep dive into companies that accept DOGE ranging from online retail stores to streaming services, real estate, gaming and entertainment, airlines, and Electric Vehicle (EV) manufacturers.

1. Crypto Emporium

Talk of the best retailers on the market when it comes to a huge selection of items that can be bought with cryptocurrencies – Crypto Emporium sticks out. The company was formed in 2018 and operates as a global peer-to-peer marketplace for everything and anything.

Whether you are looking to buy a car, artwork, a digital course, domain names, watches, electronics, clothing, health supplements, home care equipment, or even residential or commercial real estate, Crypto Emporium has got them all.

The best part, all of the listings on the website can be purchased with digital coins. Crypto Emporium accepts BTC, LTC, USDT, XRP, DASH, ETH, and Dogecoin (DOGE). You can switch between acceptable digital assets when viewing the price of any item. So, if you have some Dogecoin and want to know what a PS5 or a home in the UK or Asia would cost, just switch on the currency tab.

Subsequently, Newegg expanded its payment options, providing support for other crypto assets like Ethereum (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), Bitcoin Cash (BCH), Dai (DAI), USDC, and other cryptocurrencies. Meme coins such as Dogecoin (DOGE), and Shiba Inu (SHIB) were not left behind, both accepted on Newegg’s online store since 2021.

A picture showing Tesla model 3, Tesla Model Y, Dogecoin logo and Teala logo

Tesla announced in December 2021 that it would begin accepting the crypto asset starting January 2022, enabling customers to pay with DOGE when purchasing select merchandise on its e-shop.

When shopping on Tesla’s online store, items eligible for DOGE payment typically have the Dogecoin logo next to the order button.

However, the bear market of 2022 which resulted in a significant dip in Dogecoin price prompted Tesla to remove the payment method from the merch store just a few months after integration.

Will Dogecoin return to Tesla soon? In August 2024, Elon’s response to a post by an X user hinted at a possible return for Dogecoin payments.

Me

— Elon Musk (@elonmusk) August 30, 2024

Outside of the store, Tesla’s CEO also suggested that EV owners could pay with DOGE at its 45,000+ supercharger stations soon. At the moment, buying Tesla’s EVs with Dogecoin is impossible.
