Tezos has successfully deployed the 17th Quebec protocol upgrade, marking another milestone in the blockchain’s development. The upgrade brings faster transaction speeds, improved staking mechanics, and token issuance improvements, all aimed at increasing the functionality and resilience of the blockchain.
One of the key changes in the Quebec upgrade is the reduction of block times from 10 seconds to 8 seconds. This allows transactions to reach finality in just 16 seconds, making Tezos a strong candidate for speed-sensitive applications such as payments and gaming. These performance improvements do not increase hardware requirements, allowing validators to continue participating in the network using the available infrastructure.
The upgrade also brings changes to the Tezos staking system. Staking, which allows users to lock up tokens to secure the network and earn rewards, has become more accessible. With the Quebec upgrade, validators can accept external stakes of up to nine times their own stake, up from the previous limit of five times. Quebec also improved Tezos’ adaptive issuance mechanism, which was introduced in the previous upgrade. The improved system will better balance staking rewards with inflation control.
