In November 2024, the Ethereum ecosystem was stunned by a significant increase in the total value locked (TVL) of the Taiko Layer 2 (L2) network. Taiko’s TVL surged by more than 1,000% in the CNF report at that time, landing a record $81 million.
Moreover, daily transactions on this network totaled five million, suggesting the progressively broad acceptance of Ethereum’s L2. Taiko is once more in the public now thanks to its latest project, the biggest anonymous community vote in Ethereum history.
How Taiko Ensures a Secure and Collusion-Free Voting System
Aiming to further decentralize community governance, Taiko partnered with DoraHacks to plan a sizable community vote. Why might this initiative appeal? The system applied is no joke. They apply Minimal Anti-Collusion Infrastructure (MACI), a Vitalik Buterin innovation.
MACI is meant to safeguard vote privacy and deter vote buying and cooperation. Every vote stays private with zero-knowledge technology, hence no party may purchase influence or control. In essence, this approach guarantees that choices made by the community really reflect their voices rather than those of particular groups, therefore transcending their interests.
Not just that, you know. Taiko and Dora Hacks also aim for extensive community involvement. With around 924,300 members registered thus far, it is the biggest MACI-based vote ever.

The Race for a More Efficient Blockchain Experience
On the other hand, Taiko is not the only one driving the evolution of the Layer 2 network. Big plans abound also in the Open Network (TON). Their first half of 2025 roadmap has shown the opening of a Layer 2 payment network.
TON’s L2 network is made to lower transaction costs, boost scalability, and allow quick transfers with almost discernible commissions. Stated differently, their customers seek to provide faster and less expensive blockchain experiences. Imagine if all crypto transactions could be completed without any pocket-draining costs as rapidly as sending an instant message.
TON does, however, have an advantage in transaction efficiency; Taiko outperforms in terms of decentralization and community governance nonetheless. MACI’s application in this voting is a tangible action demonstrating their attention not only to technical performance but also to how to create a more democratic ecosystem.
