Sonic SVM, the first Layer-2 (L2) solution on Solana (SOL), has announced a new token airdrop to reward Solayer users who delegate to Sonic’s Actively Validated Service (AVS), according to the information shared with Finbold on Thursday, December 12.
The airdrop will target users who have delegated SOL or eligible Liquid Staking Tokens (LSTs) to Sonic AVS via Solayer.
All qualifying delegations — including not only SOL stakers, but also users of Solayer-powered protocols such as Adrastea — will be captured in a snapshot occurring ahead of Sonic’s Token Generation Event (TGE) scheduled for Q1 2025.
Chris Zhu, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) at Sonic, emphasized the significance of the airdrop, saying:
“The airdrop confirmation signals our commitment to empowering those who have played a pivotal role in the growth of Sonic’s AVS. By rewarding Solayer delegators and Adrastea participants, we’re not only incentivizing broader participation but also ensuring that the users who have believed in Sonic’s vision from the start benefit directly from our growth.”
New Sonic SVM airdrop
Currently the largest delegated AVS on Solayer, Sonic holds over $80 million in SOL, with over 81,000 delegators.
The airdrop is, therefore, a way for Sonic to show appreciation for early adopters and highlight the importance of community participation in Solana’s restaking space.
Users who delegate to Sonic AVS via Solayer also gain access to LSTs, which allow for greater liquidity through integrations with decentralized finance (DeFi) platforms like Banx, Orca, and Meteora.
Additional liquidity further unlocks new opportunities for restakers and helps secure TVL for Sonic’s AVS.
The growth of Solana’s liquid staking market
Solana’s liquid staking market is experiencing rapid growth, with the total market capitalization of LSTs surpassing $2 billion.
Initiatives like the upcoming Sonic airdrop are thus helping the platform drive adoption and further energize its restaking platform.
By simplifying the staking process for Solayer delegators, Sonic is helping users track their contributions and get rewarded for them.
