None of the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market cap have made significant moves over the past 24 hours, according to CoinGecko. However, in meme land, tokens like TRUMP, MELANIA, and a new coin called FARTBOY have made double digit moves upwards.
Official Trump (TRUMP), a token endorsed by the U.S. President, has jumped 12.4% over the past 24 hours—his wife’s official token Melania Meme (MELANIA) is also up nearly 2%. This comes the morning after Donald Trump met with Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyah, telling the media that Palestinians should resettle in another country and that the U.S. will take “ownership” in redeveloping Gaza after Israeli bombings have turned it into a “big pile of rubble.”
These comments were met with skepticism and concern from both sides of the political aisle. Democrat Senator Chris Murphy said that Trump has “completely lost it” and his plan would “cost thousands of American lives.” A number of Republicans also pushed back on the proposal, including South Dakota Senator John Thune who said it is “obviously” not going to happen.
But clearly meme coin buyers don’t care, prompting the TRUMP token to have a double digit bounce after it hit its lowest price since launch day on Tuesday.
This 75% drop from its all-time high was motivated by President Trump’s trade war with Canada, Mexico, and China. Hefty tariffs have been put on pause with the two North American trading partners, but there’s no agreement on the horizon with China.
Elsewhere, Vine Coin (VINE), which was launched by the founder of the classic mobile app, has climbed 35.4% over the past 24 hours. Equally, Vader AI (VADER), an AI agent made by the Virtuals Protocol, has climbed 11.8% and Dogwifhat (WIF) has climbed 3.6%.
But the biggest meme coin winner of the day is Fartboy (FARTBOY), a month old Solana meme coin dedicated to a gassy superhero, soaring 66.8% on the day, 79.5% over the week, according to CoinGecko. As silly as this may sound, this movement may be related to the U.S. National Fart Day taking place on Wednesday. The token’s official Twitter has celebrated this holiday by hosting a $600 giveaway.
It’s not all good news for meme coins, however, as the broader category is down 6% on the day, according to CoinGecko.
The biggest loser of the day is Alpha (ALPHA), a coin dedicated to the Ancient Greek philosophy of stoicism, which has tanked 39.7%. In second place is Elon4AfD (ELON4AFD), a token supporting Elon Musk’s endorsement of right-wing German political party Alternative for Germany, which has dropped 38.7%. And with bronze is a meme coin dedicated to a TikTok trend of AI-generated videos of cats called Meow (MEOW) which has shrunk 19%.
