The recorded slowdown of rounds is direct evidence that the system’s technological safety margins have decreased. Schwartz admitted that this is a marker that the network is either under a targeted attack or a hidden bug has been activated inside the code.
At the same time, the architect refuted rumors about the blockchain’s vulnerability to single points of failure. The network is fully decentralized, so shutting down or overloading even a large hub (including his own node) has no effect on XRPL’s overall operability and uptime.
How the creator of the network was left without logs
The main practical problem turned out to be the vulnerability of the network monitoring systems during peak loads. When consensus rounds slowed down, validators abruptly switched to maximum load. Schwartz’s own node could not withstand the influx of requests, causing local RPC connections to hang in the CLOSE_WAIT state.
Because of this hang, Schwartz’s internal monitoring system was unable to record and transmit diagnostic data at the most critical moment. As a result, the engineer had to reboot the server without understanding the exact cause of the failure.
During the discussion, it emerged that the hub of the XRPL co-creator was sending logs to an outdated test host of the $XRP Ledger Foundation (XRPLF).
Currently, the team of engineers and community operators is manually analyzing the surviving logs to isolate and completely eliminate the defect. Schwartz summarized that, despite the temporary reduction in safety margins, the team has no reason to panic. The developers are fully in control of the situation, and the code architecture has a sufficient technological reserve to keep the network operational.
