London — MoonPay has unveiled MoonTags, a new feature designed to strip away the complexity of sending and receiving cryptocurrency. Instead of relying on long wallet addresses or choosing the right blockchain, users can now send funds instantly to a personalized tag — making crypto movement feel as intuitive as messaging a friend.

What Are MoonTags?
MoonTags function like social media handles, serving as unique identifiers that allow MoonPay users to send or receive crypto directly across supported blockchains. Each user is assigned a default MoonTag upon signup, which can be customized with a name and profile photo.
From there, sending or requesting funds becomes a matter of searching for a tag — no manual wallet address input, no chain selection, and no risk of sending to the wrong account.
“Transferring crypto shouldn’t feel like a technical process. MoonTags take the guesswork out of sending and receiving funds, making crypto movement feel as natural and intuitive as any modern payments experience.”
Ivan Soto-Wright, CEO & Co-founder of MoonPay
Key Features
Personalized Tags: Every user gets a unique MoonTag, customizable with profile details.
Any Token, Any Chain: Senders can pay in one cryptocurrency while recipients receive the token they requested.
Human-Centric Design: Crypto transfers feel like peer-to-peer payments, with instant updates and no address copying.
Global Reach: Built on MoonPay’s infrastructure, MoonTags work anywhere in the world, offering an alternative to traditional money transfer services like Wise or Western Union.
Crypto has long struggled with usability hurdles. Wallet addresses, bridges, and gas fees often intimidate everyday users. By replacing these with a simple tag system, MoonTags aim to lower the barriers to entry, bringing digital assets closer to mainstream adoption.
For international users, MoonTags promise faster and cheaper remittances. For crypto natives, they eliminate the headache of managing multiple wallets and networks.
Getting Started
Using MoonTags takes just a few steps:
Log into the MoonPay app (users receive a default tag automatically).
Tap Send or Request to initiate a transfer.
Search by MoonTag (e.g. @marco) to find the recipient.
Complete the transfer — with the option to add a personal message.
The Bigger Picture
With MoonTags, MoonPay is betting that a human-first layer will accelerate crypto’s transition into everyday life. By making transactions borderless, fast, and simple, the company hopes to put crypto payments on par with — or even ahead of — traditional digital banking tools.
MoonTags are now available globally through the MoonPay app, with the exception of certain cross-chain transfers in New York and the EEA.
