A few days ago, Linea, a well-known layer-2 blockchain of Ethereum, officially revealed the intention to launch its own crypto through an airdrop distribution.
The new crypto, which takes the name of the project as its ticker, represents the latest step to decentralize the governance of the ecosystem.
Consensys, a Swiss non-profit company that manages the developments of Linea, wanted to commemorate the initiative by launching the “Linea Association” during the Devcon in Bangkok.

Since its launch on the mainnet in August 2023, the chain has experienced incredible growth and is now ready to take a fundamental step to decentralize its structure.
LINEA will be a governance token that involves individual holders in reaching shared decisions within the cryptographic ecosystem.
The launch of the cryptocurrency highlights the transition of L2 to a public domain network, in which users decide to contribute autonomously to its development.
To celebrate the big event, the parent company Consensys inaugurated the Linea Association during the Devcon event in Bangkok.
The autonomous organization will focus on the administration of the decentralized protocol, ensuring social and technical alignment.

As mentioned, the LINEA token will be launched with a crypto airdrop that will involve all those who have supported the chain since its inception.
Users, collaborators, developers, and investors will be at the center of the distribution plan for the new currency.
At the moment, no tokenomics have been described yet, so we do not know what percentage of the total supply will be allocated to the airdrop.

Still 4 months before the official launch: the Linea community complains
The execution of the crypto airdrop of Linea is expected, in conjunction with the TGE of the LINEA token, approximately at the end of the first quarter of 2025.
This means that for another 4 months we will likely not see any reward for the Linea community, already annoyed by the long wait that has passed.

Is there still time to participate in the LINEA crypto airdrop?
