Ditobanx, a digital financial services platform, has partnered with ICP Hub Mexico, a leader in blockchain innovation, to introduce a new payment solution using ckBTC that processes transactions in just one minute. This initiative, set to launch on university campuses in Aguascalientes, aims to provide students with an accessible financial alternative that bypasses traditional banking systems.
The partnership is noteworthy as currently, fewer than 100 businesses in Mexico accept cryptocurrency payments, according to data from Bitso. The ckBTC payment system not only stands out for its rapid transaction time—significantly faster than the typical 20-30 minutes required by other cryptocurrencies—but also aims to foster financial and digital literacy among young adults.
As part of the pilot program, over 4,000 students will be given 100 pesos in ckBTC to spend at local campus businesses, such as cafeterias and bookstores. This initiative not only introduces students to the practical use of digital currencies but also promotes Bitcoin, often referred to as ‘digital gold,’ as a viable everyday transactional medium.
Ditobanx is backed by substantial international venture funding, including investments from Mexico’s Ark Fund and various European entities. The platform offers a comprehensive array of services, including digital wallets, payment processing for merchants, and digital asset tokenization, among others.
The pilot program in Aguascalientes is just the beginning. Following its launch, there are plans to expand the initiative to other universities across Mexico, aiming to broaden the accessibility of advanced digital financial tools.
