YZi Labs (formerly Binance Labs) announced an investment in AI-powered digital heritage project Funes.
Funes aims to permanently preserve the cultural and architectural heritage of human civilization in the digital environment by creating the world’s largest open 3D architectural model archive.
YZi Labs argued that this investment strengthens the company’s “AI-culture-real-world data infrastructure” strategy. Funes uses community-sourced photogrammetry and computer vision technologies to record human-made structures, from temples and castles to monasteries and modern buildings, in high-accuracy 3D.
In an era of rapid digital growth, physical structures built over centuries are increasingly disappearing. Funes was founded to preserve these lost spaces for the future. The platform aims to create an “eternal museum” of all human artifacts; just as Wikipedia compiles human knowledge, Funes aims to compile the world’s physical memory.
Hanyang Wang, Co-Founder of Funes, stated that the platform is growing rapidly and said:
“Funes has become the largest online database of real-world 3D architectural models. The models we collect will continue to increase in accuracy, scale, and dimensional richness. This database will provide a solid foundation not only for visualization but also for future commercial applications compatible with next-generation LLMs and computer vision technologies.”
