Bitpanda Grows Its European Bank Network as Crypto Access Widens

The three developments reflect a strategy that differs from the conventional cryptocurrency exchange model. Rather than relying exclusively on attracting users to its own investment application, Bitpanda is supplying the technology that allows established banks to introduce digital assets through their existing services.

That approach gives Bitpanda access to new distribution channels, although the commercial value of its recent agreements will depend on how many customers ultimately use the products.

Fibank Brings Bitpanda’s Infrastructure to Bulgaria

Bitpanda Enterprise will provide the digital asset infrastructure behind a planned cryptocurrency investment service in the My Fibank mobile application.

The integration is expected to launch in early 2027 and will be available to the bank’s customer base of more than one million people, subject to the eventual product rollout.

According to the official announcement, Fibank will become the first Bulgarian bank to incorporate cryptocurrency investing directly into its mobile banking environment.

Bitpanda will be the sole provider of the crypto asset services, while Fibank will maintain the customer-facing application.

The arrangement allows the lender to introduce another investment category without developing an independent cryptocurrency trading platform.

Nadeem Ladki, Global Head of Bitpanda Enterprise, described the partnership as part of the shift toward offering digital assets through established financial institutions.

Fibank CEO Nikola Bakalov emphasized the importance of expanding the bank’s digital services through an established European technology partner.

The announcement does not specify the cryptocurrencies that will be supported, transaction fees or whether access will be available to every customer from the initial launch.

Those details will matter when comparing the service with existing exchanges and investment applications in Bulgaria.

Raiffeisen Creates a Wider Central and Eastern European Opportunity

Bitpanda’s agreement with Raiffeisen Bank International (RBI), announced on September 23, could provide a significantly larger distribution opportunity.

The companies established a group-wide framework intended to support digital asset services across RBI’s Central and Eastern European banking network.

RBI serves approximately 18 million customers across the region. That figure represents the network’s potential reach, not an existing base of Bitpanda crypto users.

Individual banks will determine their product offerings and implementation schedules according to local requirements.

The framework builds on an existing Austrian partnership with Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Wien, which previously integrated Bitpanda-powered cryptocurrency services into its banking environment.

The latest arrangement moves beyond a single-bank implementation.

By establishing a common infrastructure framework, Bitpanda can support future integrations across multiple banking subsidiaries without having to develop a completely separate technology solution for every market.

The September announcement does not provide a uniform rollout schedule for the entire network.

The opportunity is therefore substantial in geographic scope, but its conversion into operating products will happen progressively.

BW-Bank Shows How Existing Partnerships Can Expand

Germany offers a different example of Bitpanda’s institutional strategy.

On September 9, BW-Bank, the retail banking brand of Landesbank Baden-Württemberg (LBBW), expanded its digital investment offering to include cryptocurrency trading for self-directed investors.

Customers gained access to selected crypto assets through their existing securities-account environment, using Bitpanda’s investment infrastructure.

The launch extended a relationship that had initially focused on institutional and corporate digital asset services.

Unlike the planned Bulgarian integration, BW-Bank’s retail service is already operational.

The development demonstrates that Bitpanda can expand an established institutional relationship into new customer segments, rather than relying exclusively on signing additional banking partners.

Bitpanda Enterprise Moves Beyond Its Original B2B Model

Bitpanda formally introduced its expanded institutional platform in March 2026, replacing the narrower positioning of Bitpanda Technology Solutions with a broader offering under the Bitpanda Enterprise name.

The new platform combines investment infrastructure with custody, liquidity, payments, stablecoin solutions and asset tokenization.

Its Investment-as-a-Service model allows financial institutions to integrate digital asset investing through application programming interfaces rather than developing every component internally.

This creates opportunities beyond retail cryptocurrency trading.

A bank may initially offer customers access to selected digital assets, then consider additional services as its digital investment business develops.

The model also changes how Bitpanda reaches investors. Through its own platform, the company competes directly for customer accounts. Through institutional partnerships, its infrastructure can serve investors who primarily interact with another financial brand.

The potential economic advantage is the ability to support several partners using common technology and operational capabilities.

However, Bitpanda has not disclosed the commercial terms of the Fibank or RBI agreements, including expected revenue, transaction-based fees or projected adoption.

Without those figures, its expanding partner network demonstrates distribution growth rather than a measurable increase in institutional earnings.

MiCA Provides a Regulatory Framework, Not a Compliance Shortcut

The European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation, or MiCA, establishes common authorization and conduct requirements for crypto asset service providers.

This framework supports cross-border expansion by allowing appropriately authorized providers to offer permitted services across EU markets, subject to applicable requirements.

Bitpanda GmbH received authorization from Austria’s Financial Market Authority (FMA) in April 2025.

The regulator’s authorization notice covers activities including crypto custody, exchange, order execution and transfers.

For banking partners, working with an established provider can reduce the technical burden associated with introducing digital asset services.

Banks must nevertheless assess their own obligations, including customer protection, outsourcing arrangements, operational resilience and the regulatory responsibilities attached to each product.

Authorization also requires continuing compliance.

In August 2026, the Austrian FMA imposed a €70,000 fine on Bitpanda GmbH for MiCA breaches involving crypto asset white-paper publication and related marketing requirements.

The final enforcement decision illustrates that regulatory approval does not remove ongoing supervisory obligations.

It also provides relevant context for evaluating infrastructure providers seeking deeper relationships with regulated banks.

Can Banking Partnerships Translate Into Crypto Adoption?

Bitpanda’s institutional expansion is taking place as cryptocurrency access becomes increasingly available through established financial applications.

Digital banks and investment platforms, including Revolut and N26, already offer crypto services in selected European markets.

Bitpanda’s strategy is partly complementary to that development. The company can operate a consumer investment platform while supplying the underlying technology used by other financial brands.

Its banking partnerships may appeal to customers who prefer managing digital assets within an existing financial relationship.

But familiar distribution does not automatically produce strong trading activity.

Product pricing, the range of supported assets, execution quality and the investment experience will influence adoption.

The next useful indicators will be the number of completed integrations, active customers using the services and transaction volumes generated through banking partners.

Bitpanda has secured agreements covering different stages of that process, from operational retail products in Germany to planned integrations in Bulgaria and a wider framework across Central and Eastern Europe.

Its European banking network is becoming broader. Whether that network produces meaningful recurring revenue will depend on the performance of the services operating beneath those banking brands.
