World, the biometric cryptocurrency and ID project, has launched Build Latam in Argentina, a program aimed at empowering tech projects to leverage World’s services in their products. Martín Mazza, Tools for Humanity regional manager for Latin America, explained the new security measures the project has implemented to protect user data.
World Launches Latam-Focused Incentives, Discusses New Security Measures in Argentina
Despite the massive opposition it has faced from local governments in Latin America, World is pushing to increase its influence and adoption in the region. Recently, the biometric and ID initiative launched Build Latam, a program aimed at empowering regional projects that leverage its services in various key industry areas.
The program, which will provide 1 million WLD tokens to 15 different projects in Latam, was recently unveiled in Argentina, highlighting the country’s relevance for the company. At the launch, Tools For Humanity Regional Latam Manager Martin Mazza stressed that the company was implementing new security measures to keep user data safe.
Mazza explained that, since October, World has implemented an Anonymized Multiparty Computation (AMPC) protocol to improve user data security. Explaining the inner workings of this approach, Mazza stated:
What the system does is, to that anonymized proof of humanity, split it into different secrets that are stored in different databases guarded by different universities.
“It’s like breaking what we call a seed phrase into different pieces and storing them in different databases held by different universities,” he added, emphasizing the security gains for users and the project.
Mazza clarified that World did not offer money in exchange for user verification, and that the rewards given to users were offered in the form of Worldcoin, the protocol’s native token. “This asset gives you ownership over the network, it is the way to participate in the value it may have in the future and in the governance of the network itself,” he stated.
Argentina is one of the countries with the highest participation in the protocol, with over 2.2 million Argentines having already verified their ID by reading their irises at an orb, an eye scanning machine.
