On Friday, April 19, 2024, the eve of Bitcoin’s fourth halving, Binance hosted its inaugural online Law Enforcement Training Day, an educational initiative for international law enforcement. The event was part of Binance’s robust Law Enforcement Training Program, which resulted in over 120 online or on-site workshops and training sessions last year.

The main purpose of the event was to deliver functional and up-to-date cryptocurrency education for investigators, covering practical techniques such as blockchain tracing and advanced topics including demixing or cross-chain swaps. Law enforcement speakers presented case studies that featured investigations of pig butchering scams, child abuse, and terrorist financing. They showcased a combination of traditional investigative techniques and the tracing of funds across major publicly traceable blockchains, demonstrating the increasing readiness of agencies to embrace new opportunities.
The event boasted a lineup of 11 speakers from Binance, law enforcement portal Kodex, and blockchain data investigation platforms Chainalysis, TRM Labs, Elliptic, and Clain, as well as representatives from the law enforcement community, including the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau (CCIB) of the Royal Thai Police, the National Organised Crime Agency of the Police of the Czech Republic, and the Cyberpolice Department of the National Police of Ukraine.
The event was streamed to an audience of over 1,300 law enforcement representatives in 86 countries, mostly from national police agencies and state prosecutors. Out of the ten countries with the largest number of attendees, six were European. Apart from sharing knowledge, the event also aimed to build bridges and reinforce the much-needed cooperation between the public and private sectors.
Following the event, Jarek Jakubcek, Binance’s Head of Law Enforcement Training, commented: “Cooperation between the public and private sectors is not just desirable; it is an absolute necessity to tackle and prevent cryptocurrency-related criminal activity. We were pleasantly surprised by the massive interest from the global law enforcement community and are grateful to all participants for contributing to the positive spirit of this practical knowledge-sharing event.”
