Some email exchanges included in the newly released Jeffrey Epstein documents contain striking details about contacts between Epstein and early players in the cryptocurrency sector. The documents particularly highlight statements that are considered to be potentially linked to the stablecoin issuer Tether (USDT).
In a 2014 email, cryptocurrency entrepreneur Brock Pierce sent to Jeffrey Epstein, stating that he wanted to associate Larry Summers, a prominent figure at the time, with Noble Markets (NASDAQ digital currency exchange) and Tether. In the message, Pierce wrote, “I would like to involve him in Noble Markets and Tether.”
Brock Pierce is known as one of the founding partners of Tether.
Another email included in the same set of documents shows an exchange of ideas on central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) and the concept of a digital dollar. The message discusses the possibility of the US Treasury Department issuing a “FED-backed digital USD,” arguing that integrating AML/KYC policies directly into the coin structure could increase adoption. This approach, it is suggested, could create a more stable alternative to Bitcoin’s volatility.
The documents also include attempts to re-establish contact between Pierce and Epstein in correspondence from 2018. While these emails don’t directly mention Tether, the breadth of their network within the crypto sector is noteworthy.
