The IOTA Foundation Develops Innovative Applications For The EU

IOTA has recently developed three new products that it launched in collaboration with the European Commission. These products make processes in many industries and sectors more transparent. In addition, these innovations will be implemented within the framework of the European Blockchain Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP).

The Digital Product Passport for Electronics (DPP for Electronics) manages the lifecycle of electronic goods. The IOTA Foundation developed it in collaboration with the Technical University of Catalonia and eReuse. This tool uses blockchain to ensure an accurate record of all electronic devices from production to disassembly and recycling. To address the environmental problem of plastic waste, the IOTA Foundation has developed a prototype of the DPP, a digital product passport for plastics, specifically designed for agroplastic products such as agricultural mulch films. To implement this initiative, IOTA has teamed up with Digimarc and Agro2Circula. Together, they will work to track the journey of plastic from use to reuse, recycling and reuse as a product.

The third product is an identification model designed to provide more efficient management of intellectual property rights related to media. It was developed to address the complexity of licensing music used in films. The tool uses distributed ledger technology and smart contracts to manage rights and pay royalties. The IPR Marketplace system is based on IOTA smart contracts, which transform traditional negotiations and documentation into digital contracts that are self-executing and enforceable. This ensures that rights holders can protect their rights and claim compensation in due course.
